Over 100 people gathered in Place de Paris to march through the city today, in solidarity with those caught in modern-day slavery
The 7th annual Walk for Freedom, a global event observed in several countries around the world, also took place in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on Saturday 16 October, 2021. The event was a great success with over 100 participants joining the walk to raise public awareness on human trafficking, a form of modern-day slavery.
Members of the local community in Luxembourg hit the streets walking in a single file, while handing out flyers, holding vibrant placards and speaking with passersby on the need to act against human trafficking, one of the greatest injustices in the world today with millions of victims affected.
The walk, which began at the Place de Paris, through Avenue de la Liberté, Pont Adolphe, Rue Notre Dame, concluded at Place Clairefontaine, where international human rights activists read out the declaration of freedom in English, French and Luxembourgish, and participants sang in solidarity with local artists in attendance. Several onlookers were also drawn to the event out of curiosity.
“This is our walk for freedom” the Luxembourg organizers of the walk (The Insight Project) reiterated and encouraged members of the public to continue to spread the message in their neighborhoods even after the walk. The next edition of the walk will take place in October 15, 2022.
A special thank you to all the participants, volunteers and sponsors. Without you the Walk For Freedom would not be a reality!
